To THE Editor:— The discovery of great mineral wealth in the Klondyke affords Mr. Turner and his ministry a noble opportunity of opening up the adjacent undeveloped and practically unexplored regions of British Columbia. The entire northern half o! our province remains to-day in much the same condition as nature made it. It is true that ■we have hitherto been fully engaged in development elsewhere, but the present excitement should be taken advantage of to broach, so to speak, our 'great i-eaerve in the north. Nothing 'more than the insiatance of the principal newspapers of the province is required to bvini: tlie miniatry to appreciate tlie urgency and importance of this question. While recognising that roads and ■ railways must await financial arrange-i!aenta (although exceptional efforts sbonld be made to secure them) tliere ih no reason why the government sliould delay all action in this matter. Trail work and survey parties ehould be the order of the day, pendlnR operations on a larger Bcale. In procuring access from Cariboo Into tbo undeveloped North, or in imy cood move in that direction they may make, the government will find the community working warmingly in their support.

It has already been suggested in Cariboo that an expedition be equipped and despatched nortliward with a view of penetrating into the districts at present represented by blanks on our maps. Eager prospectors can be found wiio are willing to 2ivo their time and a i)ractical report of all ilicy see in excliauge for what they may discover. Public spirited men in Cariboo will find at least a part of their ontflt and surely the government will see the fitness of lending aid and encouragement. They will be called upon for aBsistanoe in the proper manner and at the proper time.
